"Shalom" is a Hebrew word with many meanings. Hello; Peace; Goodwill; Good bye my friends, and Until we meet again. In class this week we used this beautiful piece of music to stimulate the children's vestibular system. What is the vestibular system you ask? The vestibular system controls the sense of movement and balance. It integrates the sensory inputs which give us information about gravity and motion, our bodies muscular movements and position in space. Movements that move the head off center and stimulate the vestibular system include rolling, tipping, swaying, turning and twisting.
The children were placed on sturdy towels or blankets and swung by the grown ups in the class. By these pictures you can tell they were having a wonderful time. Lot's of laughs, giggles and smiles all around!
You can do this activity at home too! Just lay down a sturdy towel or blanket, lay the child down, gently pick up each end and begin to swing! So much fun for the child and very stimulating to the vestibular system!
